Species and populations

We currently offer TILLING in our Brassicaceae populations (B. rapa R-o-18, B. napus Cabriolet, B. oleracea DH1012 and Capsella rubella) and in the model legumes Lotus japonicus Gifu, L. japonicus MG20 and Medicago truncatula A17. A recent addition to our collection is the Oat TILLING population (Avena strigosa S75).

Our comprehensive service includes target selection and gene-specific primer design, TILLING by capillary electrophoresis using the Fragment Analyser and provision of seeds from selected mutants. We can also obtain rice mutants for you via collaborators in China.

An in silico Brassica rapa mutation-finding resource from targeted re-sequencing of ca. 1,000 lines is also available.

Lotus japonicus (Regel) Larsen

We have two populations for Lotus japonicus. The first raised in 2001-3 of individual lines representing 4904 families of ecotype Gifu B-129 and the second, 3652 lines of Miyakojima MG-20 produced in 2009-12.

Brassica napus

The  B. napus population consists of 6156 plants of  ‘Cabriolet’ (‘JBnaCAB_E’) developed in Ian Bancroft’s group.

Brassica rapa

The B. rapasubsp. trilocularis (Yellow Sarson) population consists of 9216 lines of the genotype R-o-18 consisting of two siblings from each of 4608 families which were raised between 2007 and 2009.

Medicago truncatula

We have a population of 3162 individual lines of the ecotype Jemalong A17 raised between 2010 and 2013.

Capsella rubella

The Capsella rubella accession we used is known as SAS 52 (originator Adrien Sicard) and was a gift from Michael Lenhard, University of Potsdam. There are two siblings from each of 1536 M2 families.

Brassica oleracea

We have a population of 3072 M2 families, two siblings from each family. The line used was DH1012 which is derived from B.oleracea cv. alboglabra x B. oleracea cv. italica ‘Green Duke’.

Oryza sativa

We can access rice TILLING for you through our partners at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing.

Contact us if you wish to do some TILLING in this species. They have ca. 7000 lines of O. sativa, spp. japonica  Zhonghua 11.

Avena strigosa

This diploid population consisting of 3072 sodium azide mutagenized individuals developed in the laboratory of Anne Osbourn.
