Noel Ellis

Senior Affiliated Scientist

Professor Noel Ellis has more than 30 years’ experience in plant molecular genetics.

Noel’s research focus has been on genetic diversity, mapping improvement traits and associated genomic analyses in pea. He led the Grain Legume Integrated Project from JIC from 2004 – 2008, which was a multicentre EU Consortium. Noel was also Professor of Crop Genetics at the University of Aberystwyth from 2011 to 2013, before becoming Director of the CGIAR Research Program (CRP) on Grain Legumes in Hyderabad until 2015. He held an honorary Professorship at the University of Auckland before returning to the UK in 2019.

In his current role, Professor Ellis is an Senior Affiliated Scientist in the department of Crop Genetics advising on Legume genetics and genomics science in the Germplasm Resources Unit team.
