Sreya Ghosh selected for Forbes Under 30 list
Sreya Ghosh, a postdoctoral wheat researcher at the John Innes Centre, has been named on the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 Europe list 2021.
The list, published annually by the global media company, recognises young innovators and entrepreneurs who are transforming their fields.
Sreya has been recognised in the Science and Healthcare category for her pioneering research in crop genetics. During her PhD, Ms. Ghosh collaborated with scientists at the University of Queensland to develop speed breeding – a method of fast-tracking plant growth which is now being used in 14 countries.
She is also one of the creators of GrowCab – a benchtop plant growth chamber with an open-source design, which makes speed breeding more accessible to low-income research settings.
The 2021 Europe list includes innovators and entrepreneurial young people from a range of commercial, scientific, art and cultural backgrounds.
Sreya, who expects to graduate with a PhD soon, conducts research on developing and applying methods for rapidly mining pathogen resistance genes in wheat and its wild relatives.
“I’m delighted to have been named on this year’s Forbes under 30 Europe list. It’s a great honour to be recognised for my research and only possible thanks to the support of my amazing colleagues, mentors, friends and family,” she said.
In 2020, the same award in the Science and Healthcare category featured another John Innes Centre researcher, Dr Guru Radhakrishnan.
