Module 4: Gene editing at Norwich Research Park

Many of the innovations around gene editing have arisen from research undertaken in Norwich, Cambridge and Hertfordshire. Norwich Research Park (NRP) is home to world-leading research establishments such as the John Innes Centre, the Earlham Institute, The Sainsbury Laboratory, the Quadram Institute and the University of East Anglia, all of whom are working on or with gene editing.

As a leader in this field, Norwich Research Park has attracted innovative companies such as Tropic Biosciences and Alora to the local area so, once the Precision Breeding Act is effectively implemented, inward investment is likely to continue in the East of England. Coupled with the region’s highly productive farmland, this makes the East of England well-placed to stimulate the commercial partnerships needed for field trials and scaling up of gene edited products.
