Neurodiversity training
As part of our BBSRC Connecting Culture project ‘Understanding, Valuing and Celebrating Neurodiversity’, we have developed two bespoke e-learning courses about Neurodiversity for people working in scientific research organisations. One course is a general introduction to Neurodiversity, while the other is aimed towards managers specifically.
Following extensive engagement with colleagues with lived experience, and led by Dr Clare Stevenson, Head of Science Coordination and Research Culture, and Leah Milner-Campbell, Neurodiversity Project Officer, the courses consist of short, narrative videos that tell a story, making them easy to complete.
More than 400 participants took part in the courses in their first two months, and the initial data is truly impactful:
- 75% of participants had never received any Neurodiversity training before.
- Participants reported a 33% increase in understanding, and experienced a 35% boost in confidence when discussing Neurodiversity.
One research support colleague who completed the training, said: “The videos and animations comparing the plant ecosystem and society were excellent. Hearing from people brought ideas and terms to life. It was great to learn about simple, practical things that can benefit everyone.”
These courses are available for free, for everyone working at BBSRC institutes, via their EDI leads.
Access to Neurodiversity e-learning outside of BBSRC institutes
By popular demand, the modules are also available for everyone outside of BBSRC institutes too at: www.jic.link/elearning
The Neurodiversity e-learning is suitable for institutes, educational organisations, businesses and workplaces who would like to make their workplace more Neuroinclusive, and for anyone who wants to learn more about Neurodiversity.
To access the e-learning outside of BBSRC institutes a fee of £10 is payable for each training session, to cover the costs of maintaining and updating the resource. All income will be reinvested into further research culture initiatives.
