Technician Commitment
The John Innes Centre became a founding signatory of the Technician Commitment in May 2017.
We are committed to development of our technicians and have embedded a culture where all staff are supported and developed.
The Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative, led by a steering group of sector bodies, with support from the Science Council and the Gatsby Charitable Foundation’s Technicians Make It Happen campaign.
By signing the Technician Commitment we have pledged action against the key challenges affection our technical staff.
- Action Plan 2024 – 2026
- Action Plan 2021 – 2023

- Technician Commitment Self-Assessment Feedback
Five target areas have been identified, which we will work with universities and other institutions to improve to safeguard vital technical skills.
The commitment will ensure greater visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians across all disciplines. One way we do this is by celebrating the contribution of our technicians in our news stories and blogs.
We will also evaluate our impact with a self-assessment process and have an action plan to address areas for improvement.
