Jonathan Ford

Jonathan is investigating the bacterial natural products, actinonin and the matlystatins.

These are potent metalloproteinase inhibitors and are potentially clinically relevant due to their anti-microbial, anti-cancer and anti-malarial properties.

Jonathan will be elucidating their biosynthetic pathway by heterologous expression of biosynthetic genes, protein purification and in vitro reconstruction of the putative pathway.
