John Innes Foundation

The John Innes Foundation is an independent charity formed in 1910 following a bequest from John Innes, a landowner in the City of London.

The foundation provides funding for our Education Programme, allowing us to deliver opportunities for schools and teachers to engage with us here at the John Innes Centre. The Education Programme aims to:

  1. Develop an education programme to facilitate opportunities for regular engagement between our staff and local schools.
  2. Enrich the science curriculum with real-world research examples to showcase research excellence in Norfolk to raise career aspirations for young people.
  3. Encourage young people to consider a career in plant and microbial sciences.

The trustees also provide direct support for the John Innes Centre’s research and training, principally through sponsorship of several graduate studentships each year, and by their support for the infrastructure of the site.

The trustees also support the study of the history of genetics and plant science; and the Foundation owns a very significant collection of archive material, the History of Genetics Libraryand the ‘Special Collection’ of rare botanical booksSeveral of the images across this website are provided by the John Innes Foundation, via these historical collections.
