The Nuffield Research Placement scheme enables first-year sixth formers from across Norfolk who perhaps haven’t previously considered a career in science to carry out a 4-week placement during July and August.
At the John Innes Centre Nuffield scholars work alongside scientists, contribute to projects and learn about lab work and scientific research.
All students who take part in the scheme are required to write a brief project report and to complete a questionnaire and give a presentation on their project to their fellow Nuffield students and supervisors.
Selection criteria include the perceived benefit to the student to be derived from a research experience at the John Innes Centre, the student’s academic attainment and a recommendation from school. The committee are keen to include as wide a range of schools as possible.
