Dr Rosanne Maguire

Postdoctoral Scientist

Rosanne is a postdoctoral scientist in the Pulse Crop Genetic Improvement Network (PCGIN) within the Balk group. Her research focuses on developing virus screening approaches in pea (Pisum sativum) to map genetic loci associated with resistance to key pea viruses, supporting the genetic improvement of breeding material. She brings more than a decade of experience working with legume crops across genetics, pathology and applied breeding, and completed her PhD at the University of Warwick on common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris).

In earlier work, Rosanne contributed to interdisciplinary projects linking plant science with food systems and consumer behaviour. She uses systems thinking approaches to explore how crop improvement can contribute to sustainable diets, net zero transitions and enhance food security. She is particularly interested in how pulses can play a greater role both on UK farms and in everyday UK kitchens.
