There has been several suggestions that plasmodesmata might play a role in helping the vast network of cells in plants to keep in time with each other.
Coordination of circadian timing between cells and organs is important for aligning biological functions to environmental changes occurring throughout the day.
Qi Yang Ngai’s project, in collaboration with Prof. Antony Dodd’s group also here at the JIC, aims to investigate whether plasmodesmata is involved in intercellular circadian coupling and how.
