Dr Maridel Fredericksen

Maridel is fascinated by parasites and their complex interactions with their hosts. In her current research, she aims to understand how phytoplasma effector proteins alter plant developmental phenotypes.

Maridel previously explored behavioral manipulation by zombie ant fungi, as well as evolutionary genetics of host – parasite arms races in the Daphnia – Pasteuria Red Queen model system.

Maridel values sharing her curiosity for the natural world through teaching and public outreach.
