Professor Dave Evans
Chair of NBI Graduate School Director of the NRPDTPDave is Director of the BBSRC Norwich Research Park Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NRPDTP) and Chair of the Norwich Bioscience Institutes (NBI) Graduate School.
The NRPDTP involves five partners: John Innes Centre, Quadram Institute Bioscience, The Sainsbury Laboratory, Earlham Institute and UEA.
He is responsible for the overall management of the NRPDTP including finances, student recruitment, training and internship programmes, and liaises with the UKRI-BBSRC on operational and reporting matters.
As Chair of the NBI Graduate School he ensures that the academic structures meet the current and future needs of UKRI and other external stakeholders in respect of the support and training of postgraduate researchers and he chairs the NBI Graduate School Executive.
He is an ex-officio member of the UEA Doctoral College Executive where he represents the NBI and their students. He works alongside the Institute Postgraduate Research (PGR) Directors, UEA Associate Deans for PGR, the NBI Graduate Studies Manager and the UEA PGR Service to promote good practice in and support for the PGR student experience.
Dave was a project leader with the AFRC/BBSRC for 26 years, initially at the Nitrogen Fixation Laboratory in Sussex and then at the John Innes Centre.
His research interests span from bioinorganic chemistry to bionanoscience and he has played a major part in developing the use of plant viruses as nanobuilding blocks, scaffolds or templates for applications in materials science and medicine.
In 2012 he was appointed Professor of Biological Chemistry at the University of Hull and soon after became Head of the Department of Chemistry and then Head of the School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
He returned to the Norwich Research Park in the spring of 2017.
