Dr Amy Newell

Postdoctoral Scientist
Amy works in the Borrill group, studying cold tolerance in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum).

Amy’s work focusses on how the different subgenomes in hexaploid wheat work together under cold stress down to the single cell level and how we can utilise this knowledge to identify new targets for crop breeding. She is also utilising the Watkins landrace historic wheat collection to find new cold tolerance loci.

Prior to joining the Borrill lab, Amy completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh and an MSci in Natural Sciences at Lancaster University. Her PhD work focussed on how light controls protein translation in Arabidopsis thaliana.
