Dr Alex McClelland
Visiting Scientist
Alex is employed as a Postdoctoral Researcher by The Sainsbury Laboratory and hosted in the Hogenhout lab at the John Innes Centre.
Alex is interested in understanding how plants interact with their pathogens on a molecular level. Uncovering these processes can allow us to generate healthier crops, but – excitingly – it can also inform new strategies to fight off human diseases. For example, studies of plant parasitic bacteria in the Hogenhout lab have opened new avenues for removing proteins associated with disease through a targeted approach.
Alex’s aim is to help develop this technology for the purposes of treating cancer using protein biochemistry and computational structural biology.
