Library Information and Archive Service

The JIC library was purpose-built in 1990 and houses three distinct but closely-related collections. The Modern Science library caters for the print and electronic information needs of JIC's scientific research departments.

The John Innes Centre Library and Archives Service operates from a purpose- built facility which was built in 1990. It consists of two major resources: the Science Library and the Historical Collections owned by the John Innes Foundation Trustees.

The science library collections comprise some 12,000 books and over 1,000 periodical titles including reports from organisations with similar research interests worldwide. The science library also provides services that compliment these collections including bibliographic services, document supply services, and literature search services.

Historical Collections

The John Innes Foundation Historical Collections are housed within the library in purpose-built, environmentally controlled rooms, providing optimum conditions for the care, preservation and display of the material. These collections include the History of Genetics Library, the John Innes Archives, and the John Innes Foundation Collection of Rare Botanical Books.

Opening

The department is staffed five days per week from 09.00 until 17.30 Monday to Thursday, and from 09.00 until 17.00 on Friday.

All visits to use or view our collections must be arranged in advance, either by letter, email or telephone. Please note that not all services offered to members are available to visitors, and charges may be made.
