Katie is a Sainsbury PhD student in Professor Cristobal Uauy’s lab.
Katie is fascinated by plant development, and how we can utilise developmental biology to improve crop performance.
She aims to identify key genes involved in wheat carpel development through transcriptomics, genome wide association, and functional validation. Ultimately, understanding the genetic mechanisms governing carpel size could directly contribute to an increase in wheat grain size and potentially yield.
Katie completed a BSc in Plant Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, where she studied boundary formation in maize shoot apical meristems.
