Gurpinder Singh Sidhu
Postgraduate ResearcherGurpinder is working to unravel the gene regulatory network controlling flowering time within Brassica napus (Oilseed rape)
Brassica napus is evolutionarily closely related to Arabidopsis thaliana, a model plant. This provides a nice avenue to translate research from model to crop and study how the regulation of this important developmental process has changed within this crop.
This work would provide useful insights in our understanding of flowering control within polyploid brassicas and aid in development of new brassica varieties better suited to changing climate conditions.
Gurpinder uses computational approaches to answer these questions, with occasional adventures into the lab.
