Dr Yinghong Gu

Postdoctoral Scientist

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global threat to public health, the discovery and development of new antibiotics is urgent.

The RiPPs (ribosomally synthesised and post-translationally modified peptides) are potential novel antibiotics.

A protein complex consists of an enzyme called YcaO is responsible for the RiPPs modification by installing azoles or/and amidines into the peptide backbones.

Dr. Gu is interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of YcaO-catalysed peptide modification and exploiting the potential of YcaO enzymes for the development of future antibiotics.
