Legume plant nodulation, responding to nitrogen supply in soil and various factors, fix nitrogen from nitrogen gas from atmosphere.

This enlightens an eco-friendly method to reduce chemical fertiliser use, which causes big ecological problem.

Benguo’s project aim to use the first plant transceptor, NRT1.1, to improve legume plant nitrogen fixation efficiency, and deeply dig legume crop genome to find new genes for the efficiency improvement.

The nitrogen assimilation and release during whole process of plant growth and decay in the field is monitored to get a global view on nitrogen cycle in crop, which will benefit legume plant use as a crop and/or rotation plant.
