Research Support Staff (RSS)

Supporting our research is a diverse team of over 170 staff whose work behind the scenes allowing our scientists to focus on their research, safe in the knowledge a dedicated support staff are there to help.

We are committed to the development of our support teams and have embedded a culture where all staff are supported and actively encouraged to develop their skills, experience, knowledge and confidence.

To demonstrate this commitment, in May 2017 we became founding signatories of the Technician Commitment which aims to ensure greater visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability for technicians across all disciplines.

One way we do this is by appropriately acknowledging the vital work our Research Support Staff do as part of our research output and by telling the stories of the people behind the scenes.

Meanwhile, our Research and Support Staff Voice committee provides a forum for all our research and support staff to communicate with the Directorate and feed into decision making processes.
