Dr Sandra Eltschkner
Platform Manager
Sandra works to manage the Structural Biology platform.
Being able to see small entities, like proteins on a computer screen at atomic resolution, is already fascinating in itself. Importantly, those highly magnified views can provide invaluable information about a protein’s function and interactions with other large or small molecules (DNA, other proteins, drugs, and substrates) that drive biological processes.
Structural Biology methods, such as X-ray crystallography and Cryo-Electron Microscopy, enable us to gain an understanding of the inner workings of macromolecules and facilitate applications such as drug design or protein engineering.
The platform supports a broad range of research projects using mainly X-ray crystallography and Cryo-EM (in collaboration with the Bioimaging Platform), as well as 3D structure prediction methods.
