Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Laboratory of Professor Caroline Dean.
Candidates with substantial postdoctoral experience will be considered for the Senior Postdoctoral Researcher post, at grade SC5. Candidates at an earlier stage in their career will be considered for the Postdoctoral Researcher post, at grade SC6.
The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology.
The overall aim of the Dean group is to understand what quantitatively regulates FLC expression in the warm, and how it is switched to an epigenetically silent state in the cold.
The successful candidate will study the mechanism of epigenetic switching at the Arabidopsis locus FLC. This locus provides an excellent system to study fundamental chromatin pathways linking histone modifications, non-coding RNA and transcriptional dynamics.
The project will involve dissection of the different mechanisms by which expression of FLC is regulated by its antisense RNA (COOLAIR), before, during and after exposure to prolonged cold.
The ideal candidate
Candidates should possess a PhD in molecular biology/cell biology, with experience in chromatin analysis and confocal microscopy (SC5 and SC6). A proven record in scientific writing is essential, as is experience of oral research presentations. In order to be considered for the senior post (SC5), candidates should have demonstrated excellence and productivity in the relevant science and ideally possess skills in live imaging and super resolution microscopy.
Appointments made at Postdoctoral Researcher level (SC6) will attract an annual salary of £31,250 – £38,100. Appointments made at Senior Postdoctoral Researcher level (SC5) will attract an annual salary of £39,150 – £47,850. Salaries are dependent on qualifications and experience.
This is a fulltime post for a period of 3 years in the first instance.
