Applications are invited for a Laboratory Support Technician to provide essential support to science staff at the John Innes Centre.
The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology.
The Laboratory Support Department provides an excellent and essential service to the scientists of the John Innes Centre across three main buildings. The successful candidate will join the Department and carry out a wide range of tasks, including the provision of sterile microbiological and plant growth media, supply of sterile glassware and consumables, collection and processing of laboratory glassware and biological waste, routine use and maintenance of laboratory equipment, waste and recycling collections and quality assurance and health and safety related tasks.
The ideal candidate
We are seeking to appoint a proactive, enthusiastic person with good organisational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills to join a small laboratory support team. Previous post-study laboratory experience, a sound knowledge of health and safety, and competence in Microsoft Office, are essential. Candidates must also be able to lift small loads of up to 13kg at chest/waist height (reasonable adjustments will be considered in the case of applicants declaring a disability).
Salary on appointment will be within the range £18,720 to £22,900 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post on a permanent basis.
