Laboratory Support Technician

Applications are invited for a Laboratory Support Technician to join the John Innes Centre.

The role

The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology.

The Laboratory Support Department provides an essential service to the scientists of the John Innes Centre across three main buildings. The successful candidate will carry out a wide range of tasks, including the provision of sterile lab-ware, media and consumables and the collections and processing of laboratory waste and recycling. The role will also involve assisting with quality assurance and health and safety related tasks.

The ideal candidate

We are seeking to appoint a proactive, enthusiastic person with good organisational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills to join the Laboratory Support department. Candidates should possess previous post-study laboratory experience. Good numeracy and literacy skills, as well as competence in the use of Microsoft Office are essential. A sound understanding of health and safety is desirable.

Candidates must also be able to lift small loads of up to 13kg at chest/waist height (reasonable adjustments will be considered in the case of applicants declaring a disability).

Additional information

Salary on appointment will be within the range £19,250 to £23,321 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.  This is a fulltime post on a permanent basis.
