Applications are invited for a Field Technician to join our Field Experimentation Team.
The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science, genetics and microbiology.
The post holder will be part of a team assisting John Innes Centre scientists to deliver crop genetics research through growing experiments in a commercial farm environment, performing field operations using a range of bespoke small-scale plot equipment and by hand.
The post holder will be actively involved in all aspects of the Field Experimentation Team’s operations including sowing of experiments by hand and using specialist equipment, plant husbandry and the application of plant protection products, harvesting, threshing and processing of plants and seeds.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and enthusiasm for good plant husbandry and have excellent communication skills.
Being willing and flexible to work outside of normal working hours when required is essential along with the ability to work independently, using initiative and applying problem solving skills.
Due to the rural location of the Field Experimentation base, candidates must possess a valid driver’s licence (reasonable adjustments will be considered in the case of applicants with a disability).
Salary on appointment will be within the range £19,250 to £23,321 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time contract offered on a permanent basis.
