We’re looking for a Chair of Governing Council.
The Governing Council is responsible for oversight of the management and administration of our income and expenditure, assets and liabilities.
The Governing Council has responsibility for developing the long-term vision for the John Innes Centre alongside the Director and oversees and reviews the management and achievements of the institute.
We are at an exciting point in its history having developed a future vision delivering solutions to global challenges. Together with The Sainsbury Laboratory, we are building a case for capital investment in cutting-edge, future-proofed facilities that will create a UK hub for plant and microbial research to supercharge national ability to translate scientific knowledge into practical solutions.
The new Chair of Governing Council will have the opportunity to play a guiding role in how this exciting project evolves.
The John Innes Centre is seeking to appoint a new Chair of its Governing Council – this is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the governance and development of one of the world’s most renowned research institutions.
The Chair will lead the John Innes Centre’s Governing Council, ensuring the highest standards of governance.
They will play a key role in promoting the John Innes Centre, and provide strategic oversight, support, guidance, and constructive challenge to the Director and our Senior Leadership Team. The full Governing Council meets five times a year.
The successful candidate will be a highly regarded leader with strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to engage and influence at the highest levels across government, industry, and academia.
Candidates will be experienced non-executives and ideally bring previous chairing experience. A strong interest in our vision, mission, and strategy is essential.
