Arabidopsis, Brassica, Capsella seed development programme (ABCEED)

This project aims to identify genetic variation, genes and mechanisms that contribute to seed yield in Brassica napus using a combined genome-wide association and associative transcriptomics approach.

A population of diverse oilseed rape accessions was screened for yield traits, including seed area, seed weight, seed number per pod, pod length and seed weight per pod.

One significant association and linked transcript variation identified promoter genetic variation reducing expression of a gene with a role in plant growth.

The mechanisms by which the protein encoded by the gene influence seed yield and composition are being established in Brassica species and Arabidopsis.
