Dr Oscar E. Gonzalez-Navarro

Research Assistant

Oscar is currently working in the further development and deployment of the MARPLE diagnostics platform at the John Innes Centre.

His focus lies in optimizing the wet-lab components for the MinION mobile sequencing device, particularly for wheat stem rust. This work is crucial because it directly contributes to enhancing disease diagnostic capacity for some of the most devastating diseases of wheat globally.

By organizing training workshops and facilitating the deployment of MARPLE diagnostics in Africa and Asia, Oscar is part of an international effort to empower agricultural communities with the tools and knowledge needed to combat crop diseases effectively. Through his work, he aims to translate scientific knowledge into practical solutions that ultimately improve the livelihoods of farmers and contribute to global food security.
