Matt supports the John Innes Centre’s work on sustainable development, including priority projects across Africa and collaboration with the Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development.
In his current role, Matt works with the project management and communication of these key areas.
His wider research focuses on how modern varieties and commercialisation affect the risks that smallholder farmers face with particular focus in Uganda and Ethiopia. In particular, he studies how farmers use complex seed systems to access crop varieties.
In combination with his John Innes Centre role, Matt is a core team member of the Norwich Institute for Sustainable Development. A recently launched institute which brings together research across natural and social sciences to address global sustainable development challenges.
