Markus Draeger

Postgraduate Researcher Plant Health

Markus is a Masters student working on the mitochondrial iron-sulfur cluster (ISC) assembly pathway in Arabidopsis.

The ISC assembly process can be divided into two basic stages. The well described first stage where S and Fe are combined on a scaffold protein, and the second stage in which the Fe-S cluster is transferred to recipient apoproteins. However, many details of the transfer process and its proteins involved are still unclear.

Therefore, Markus is particularly interested in elucidating possible functions of NFU4 and NFU5, two redundant proteins that might facilitate the Fe-S transfer in the second stage of the ISC pathway.
