Dr Yaoxi Li

Postdoctoral Scientist Genes in the Environment

Yaoxi’s research aims to analyse the molecular interactions between the VEL proteins in Arabidopsis.

She is also helping group members to generate transgenic plants for a number of studies.

Two of the VEL family proteins have been identified to be the regulators of FLC, a gene system where epigenetic silencing is induced by prolonged cold. The behaviours of the VEL proteins may help to reveal the core epigenetic switching mechanism.

Yaoxi is generating fluorescent fusions with the different VEL proteins in stable transgenic plants to image VEL protein interactions at the FLC locus. To achieve this, she employs several different techniques including molecular biology and microscopy.
