Dr Yang Bai

Group Leader Centre of Excellence for Plant and Microbial Science (CEPAMS)

Yang’s group focus on the interaction between plant and root microbiota, especially on root microbiota’s functions in plant nutrient uptake and disease resistance with metagenomic approaches.

In nature, healthy plants interact with diverse root microbial communities. These microbes contain a huge amount of functional genes and play important roles for plant growth and health.

Research Areas

  • Microbes and Nutrition: Roles of microbiota in crop nutrition and disease resistance
  • Microbiota and Gene Expression: How microbiota reshapes plant transcriptome and epigenome
  • Metagenomics Analysis: Combining sequencing and analysis methods of metagenome and metatranscriptome

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology in 2005 and a Masters in Developmental Biology 2007 at Wuhan University in China Dr. Yang Bai moved to Germany to complete his PhD at the Max Planck Research School in Cologne University which he completed in 2011.

From 2011 – 2016 Dr. Bai took a position as a Post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Plant Microbe Interactions at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research.

In 2016 Dr. Bai joined CEPAMS and took a position as Group leader at the Institute of genetics and developmental Biology, CAS, Beijing.
