By repressing the expression of flowering gene FLC, the RNA-binding protein FCA promotes floral transition.
Genetic experiments have shown that FCA is involved in 3′ end processing of FLC antisense transcripts called COOLAIR. However, the underlying mechanism is not understood.
Using a combination of genetics, biochemistry and imaging, Xiaofeng is trying to dissect how FCA participates in 3′ end processing of COOLAIR and how this is linked to downstream repression of sense FLC transcription.
