International Undergraduate Summer School: FAQs

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for our International Undergraduate Summer School:
- Who can apply?
Undergraduates in the middle year(s) of their degree (i.e. not their first or final year.)
- How long does the Summer School last?
The 2025 summer school runs for 8 weeks from 29th June – 22nd August 2025
- Do I need to be there for the whole 8 weeks?
Yes, you do need to be with us for the whole 8 weeks, but you are free at the weekends to do your own thing or socialise with your fellow students.
- What will my hours of work be?
Participants would normally be expected to be on site between 09:00-17:00 each day but there may be some flexibility in these timings depending on host lab. This will enable you to get the most from the experience
- Will I get hands on experience of working in a lab?
Yes, you will spend most days involved in practical, supervised activities in a laboratory setting as part of your project. This is a great opportunity to explore what research science involves.
- Do I need to be able to speak English?
Yes, a good understanding of spoken and written English is essential, especially for Health and Safety purposes in a laboratory environment. You’ll also be communicating regularly with researchers and other participants.
