Dr Matthew Bush

Research Assistant

Matt is interested in the molecular mechanisms that drive cell division and reproductive growth in the filamentous and antibiotic-producing bacteria Streptomyces.

Central to this research is the use of the model organism, Streptomyces venezuelae, which completes its’ entire reproductive life-cycle in liquid culture, enabling the easy application of time-lapse microscopy to the study of differentiation.

Matt’s current work involves a combination of cell biology, molecular genetics and biochemistry to both identify and characterise novel proteins with key roles in Streptomyces cell division.
