Chris Darby

Head of Policy and International
Support Services

My work ensures that both the scientific excellence and the impact of research at the John Innes Centre are strengthened by international engagement. I am responsible for the John Innes Centre’s strategic relationships with key partner institutes and organisations overseas.

The John Innes Centre is the world’s foremost research institute in plant and microbial sciences. To maintain that position, we need access to the very best science and the very best scientists around the globe.

At the same time, John Innes Centre research has the potential for significant impact on global issues such as food security and anti-microbial resistance. To optimise that impact, we need partnerships in those areas of the world where the translation of our research will make a difference.

I was formerly a Senior Civil Servant and worked as a science policy advisor in government for 21 years. I have a scientific background in nutrition/biochemistry.
