Mutant isolation:

We have isolated a large number of EMS-induced mutants from the model legume Lotus japonicus using our 'mutation machine'. The mutation machine is a forward and reverse genetic screening programme. It uses ‘TILLING’ (Targeting Induced Local Lesions In Genomes), a reverse genetic methodology, following a forward screen for various phenotypes. Descriptions of the mutants and how they were isolated can be accessed from the mutant finder at www.lotusjaponicus.org and are summarised in Perry et al., 2003.

In particular. we have been looking for mutants defective in sucrose and starch metabolism.
