Rachel MeltonRachel Melton

I have been Anne's Research Assistant since 1994 and have been involved in many different research projects in that time, as well as being responsible for the smooth running of the lab.

Currently I am investigating the regulation of synthesis of defence-related compounds (avenacins) in oats by expression of promoter-reporter fusions in heterologous species as a preliminary to transferral of single and multiple steps of the pathway into other plant species. I am also developing LC/MS-based methods for metabolite fingerprinting of our extended collection of 100 avenacin-deficient mutants of diploid oat. In addition I am screening tomato transformants for silencing of an apoplastic enzyme implicated in the sequential processing of steroidal molecules in plant/fungus interactions.
