Current Research
The objective of my research project is the understanding
of the regulation of genes required for synthesis of natural
compounds that confer disease resistance in cereals. I
will carry out a detailed investigation of avenacin content
and expression of avenacin biosynthetic genes (use of Sad1 and Sad2 as
markers) during plant growth and development. Avenacins
have an important ecological function as deterrents in
interactions with other organisms. Therefore I want to
investigate the role of biotic and abiotic stress on the
regulation of avenacin biosynthesis. A second aspect of
the project is designed to identify regulators controlling Sad gene
expression.
