Gargantua

Gargantua

During the course of growing our B. rapa var. R-0-18 mutant population, a spectacular plant appeared in one of the pots.  Due to its massive physique we have named it Gargantua based on the character by Francois Rabelais.

Gargantua varieties

Gargantua is interesting to us because of its difference to R-o-18, and we expect to be able to map several domestication - related traits in an F2 population between R-o-18 and Gargantua.  This population is currently under development.

We do, however, not know where Gargantua came from, so if any of you Brassica experts see these pictures and recognise this variety, we would be grateful if you could contact us (lars.ostergaard@bbsrc.ac.uk).
