Research interests

It is intriguing why some but not all organisms are able to regenerate missing body parts. Plants are remarkable because they can form new organs from old ones. This capacity is important for plant survival in natural conditions and for horticultural propagation. In the laboratory we are interested in understanding the striking regenerative capacity of plants by investigating how plant cells are able to retain their totipotency and switch fate when external stimuli change. At the present we are using Arabidopsis as a model system and a combination of molecular, cell biological and genetic techniques for our studies.
