Field Trials Department

The Field Trials Department supports JIC scientific research projects that require plant material to be grown under field conditions. Field grown materials are required for many different reasons, including genetic mapping, bulking of seed and applied research.

The Department uses a number of different production methods, ranging from single plant stands to replicated field plots, to provide JIC scientists with the type of plant they require for their research project.

The Department is also responsible for a number of other JIC operations, including the maintenance and up-keep of the JIC grounds, amenity areas and vehicles. The Department also oversees contract farming operations and farmland maintenance.

The Department also undertakes trials and field work for external organisations on a contract basis. This ranges from single field operations to full-scale field trial plots and production of rowed plants in cages.
