The Invisible Colours of Flowers

The John Innes Centre exhibit this year described how the beautiful shapes and complex structures of flowers are determined by patterns that are created early in flower bud development. Information displayed on light boxes and banners showed how these patterns are generated by the switching on and off of important genes. By studying these genes scientists can account for unusual flower forms.
