Prof Chris Lamb FRS was Director of JIC (1999-2009). He was adamant about the wisdom of investing in young scientists and giving them both the opportunity and the resources to pursue their ideas. Many JIC students go on to take up positions at major universities and institutes around the world. The Chris Lamb Training SuiteThis purpose built training suite which was formally opened in May 2011 as the Chris Lamb Training Suite by Peter Innes, a trustee of the John Innes Foundation. The late Chris Lamb, a former director of JIC (1999-2009) placed great emphasis on the role that JIC had in training the science leaders of the future and was instrumental in bringing the Training Suite to a reality. The facility provides a resource for integrated training in multidisciplinary biology through a wet laboratory, IT suite/lecture theatre, and discussion/breakout areas including a small garden area. It is used for shorter courses and longer workshops, and provides a base for the Undergraduate Studentship Programme. It also supports broader training and staff development activities. Training FacilitiesRecent training eventsThe Training Suite is frequently used for training events. Two recent examples of training events using the Training Suite facilities are: OMERO Imaging WorkshopThe JIC is working with partners on the Norwich Research Park, within the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and also the wider bio-imaging community to disseminate their experiences and contribute to the wider adoption of the OME platform. As part of this, the John Innes Centre and the OME team recently held a series of lectures and workshops to allow users and developers to learn more about the OME platform. More... Undergraduate Research Training Programme 2010All students attended a weekly seminar series on research techniques that was organised and delivered by PhD students from JIC/TSL. The summer students also shared in the social and sporting life of JIC/SL through linkage with the “Student Voice Committee” and the John Innes Society. Weekend social trips were arranged to Cromer, Cambridge and London and the programme ended with a two-day residential retreat at a hotel in North Norfolk. More... |
